Hainan Tourism Development Committee Explores Coastal & Marine Tourism in the U.S. – March, 2014

At the end of March, 2014, a 13-member delegation from Hainan Province Tourism Development Committee traveled all the way across the Pacific Ocean to U.S., learning U.S. best practices and experience in sun-sand-and-sea tourism. The group had the opportunity to connect with the top-notch experts in sustainable travel and coastal & marine tourism, including Dr. Martha Honey, the Co-Director of Center for Responsible Travel and Mr. Scott Wayne, President of SW Associates, as well as Mr. Steve Moore, Director of Southwest Waterfront and the WHARF project in Washington DC. They also had the chance to talk with experts in the academic world, including Dr. Youcheng Wang, Professor and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs & Research, Rosen College of Hospitality Management, University of Central Florida, Dr. Jinlin Zhao, Professor, Director of Graduate Programs, Director of Asia & Pacific Development, Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management, Florida International University to explore key issues in tourism development planning in coastal area. During their 19-day training, the group had quite a few fruitful dialogues with the academic specialists, as well as their industrial counterparts, including but not limited to Cruise Lines International Association, Sustainable Travel International, Visit Orlando, Marine Industries Association of South Florida, Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority, Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association, Port of Miami Authority, and City of Miami Department of Parks & Recreation.
